![]() Don't expect it to blow you away, but if you let this game immerse you in its' strange and bizzare world, then perhaps you will love it just as much as I did. So I'd recommend this game to everyone who wish to play something simple, but nonetheless charming and positive. But I can definitely see the amount of love and dedication that went into this project, and I just can't hate the game with so much heart and wholesomeness in it. All in all, this videogame has a number of good and not-so-good sides to it. The enemy variety is decent, the level design is pretty good and the bosses are tense and fun, not to mention the great soundtrack during all bossfights and hub explorations. Most levels aren't that long, so they almost never get tiresome. The secondary characters are also pretty good, with many pleasant and wholesome interactions. John and Sam share a very basic caretaker/adopted child dynamic, but Sam is such a loveable and innocent goofball that you just can't dislike her in any way. In terms of writing, the characters are quite simple, albeit still very charming. Some of them may be a little overused, but the best ones are still total bangers. The music is simply excellent! Every track feels different and fits the atmosphere really well. This is definitely one of the prettiest pixelart games that I've ever played. ![]() But the game stands out on its' own in terms of original and gorgeous art, including nice character designs and fluid animation. Limited Edition of 3,000 First-of-its-kind package, featuring the official Eastward Board Game for 2-4 players, designed by Erich Meyr Includes: Foldout Board. The world of Eastward is captivating and mysterious, you never know where the journey will take you next. The game itself sometimes makes direct references to Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki in one way or another. ![]() The overall atmosphere of the game is very reminiscent of classic animated films by studio Ghibli. The artstyle very pleasant and memorable. For example, I think no one would deny that this game looks great. As for me, I guess I'm just a sucker for what this game excels at. For some people, these arguable flaws are enough to give the game a lower rating, and I can see why. The gameplay can also get a bit repetitive and tiresome. The story itself can also get very confusing, especially closer to the ending. Eastward Following (3) Developer: Pixpil Publisher: Chucklefish Games Xbox Store: here Price: 24. The pacing is sometimes off and the gameplay/dialogue ratio can be very uneven in specific chapters.
